 MANIPAL MYCOLOGY CULTURE COLLECTION

M M C C

All research or applied studies using live organisms requires a constant supply of them maintained in a suitable condition.

The Manipal Mycology Culture Collection holds a diversity of pathogenic fungi & enviromental fungal isolates of around 300 different species distributed among 120 genera. This inculdes both the yeast and filamentous fungi. Several differing techniques including serial transfer, storage under mineral oil or distilled water, on silica gel crystals, and deep freeze is employed to prepare fungi for storage . Special care is taken to minimize the phenotypic and genotypic instability of the culture by appropirate choice of preparative method to yeild overall range and stability of cultures during the storage period.

The culture collection include the some the representative members of some of the important famililes and genus like,

Pleosporaceae, Herpotrichiellaceae, Mycosphaerellacea, Botryosphaeriaceae, Arthrodermataceae, Onygenaceae, Ophiostomataceae, Sporidiobolaceae.

Basidiodiobolus ranarum

Aspergillus clavatus

Baevaria bassiana

Gliocladium roseum

Hirsutella gigantea

Metarhizhium album

Paeciliomyces iliacincus

Stachybotrys charatum

Sporothrix schenkii

Acrodontium crateriforme

Dactylaria bronchopaga

Geotrichum sp.

Humicola sp.

Lecanicillium muscarium

Phialophora malorum

Scopulariopsis sp.

In addition the culture collection upholds aerobic actinomycetes that have been preserved for future reference and Quality Control. All Unusual,  significant isolates, and isolates which have had drug susceptibilities determined are also placed in the culture collection.
